EV Star
GreenPower Motor Company produces a full suite of high-floor and low-floor all-electric medium and heavy-duty vehicles. Their flagship vehicle is the EV Star Cab & Chassis platform, which is able to accommodate a variety of bodies and upfits for a variety of applications. The platform's design is based on a simple paper that allows for the best positioning of the battery pack and a lower center of gravity. This results in higher range/payload ratios.
Full Piece of writing REEFERX was designed for mid-to last mile refrigerated deliveries as well as catering applications. The refrigerated truck's class 4 configuration's one wall structure inside and higher insulation compared to traditional trucks enable seamless sanitation, improved temperature control and a more extended life. The EV Star REEFERX provides superior capacity for cargo, and an industry-leading payload to allow for zero emission goods or passenger transportation.
GreenPower has partnered with Perrone Robotics to up-fit the EV Star with their TONY (To Navigate You) autonomous vehicle system. This will allow fleets to easily move to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star will also be capable of wireless charging up to 75 kW.
We had the chance to test the EV9 for a few hours on a local freeway, and found it easy to drive and comfortable for long distances. The EV9 can block the sound of traffic and wind on the highway. It glides effortlessly over bumps and ruts. The acceleration is quite fast and the car has adjustable regenerative braking to enable "one pedal driving" by simply taking off the accelerator.
The EV9 has a great range and can be fully charged within three hours at home, or with any commercial charger. Drivers can select between two operating modes that include eco mode and sports mode. The eco mode is a preference for torque and cruise control while the sport mode is designed to maximize speed and handling. Both are a lot of fun to drive and offer an unique experience for anyone who has never been in an electric vehicle before.
In addition to the EV9, GreenPower has several other e-vehicle offerings including a multi-purpose electric mini bus, called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA compliant and can be used as an executive shuttle, transit or micro-transit bus, vanpool, or a paratransit vehicle.
GreenPower is already producing around 10 EV Star buses a month for the Jacksonville Transit Authority, which is working to replace their fleet of old diesel vehicles with 100 electric vehicles. GreenPower will increase production to meet the demand of the Biden Administration which wants to electrify all school buses in America. Their EV Star buses are the first of their kind to be Altoona tested and FMVSS-certified, Buy America compliant, and ADA certified. This will make them eligible for federal transit grants. We will be following the AV Star as it begins its public demonstration tour later this year. We will share more information on this innovative EV.
